Dryburgh, Bezjak key in W&J victory
Saint Vincent rallied in the fourth quarter to send Saturday’s game against Washington & Jefferson in women’s Presidents’ Athletic Conference play to overtime, but the Presidents had no trouble in the extra frame en route to a 70-63 triumph.
Meghan Dryburgh scored 25 points for W&J (8-1, 12-2) to share high-game honors with the Bearcats’ Emily Cavacini.
W&J’s Bryn Bezjak had 23 points, and Stellanie Loutsion added 10.
Madison Weber scored 16 for the visiting team.
Gannon 62, California 61
The Vulcans missed one free throw that would have tied the game with 0.3 seconds remaining in a PSAC-West Conference setback.
California’s Dejah Terrell led her team in scoring with 15 points. Sierra Bermudez had 12 and Iyahnna Williams put in 10.
Gannon’s Bri Claxon led the game in scoring with 20 points. The Knights’ Samantha Pirosko had 15 points.
Chatham 58, Waynesburg 49
The Cougars rallied past the Yellow Jackets in the second half for a PAC victory.
Waynesburg (1-8, 2-11) was led in scoring by Marley Wolf, who had 13 points. Teammates Kayla Howard (11) and Kalista Friday (10) were also in double digits.
Men’s basketball
Chatham 76, Waynesburg 71
Three-pointers were the difference in the Cougars’ PAC road victory over the Yellow Jackets, as Chatham had a 9-2 advantage.
Waynesburg (4-5, 7-7) outscored the Cougars, 41-37, in the second half but couldn’t make up the deficit.
The Yellow Jackets’ Antone Baker had a game-high 27 points. Teammate Jaylen Davis added 14. Jansen Knotts (12) and Jordan McLoyd (10) were in double digits for the home team.
Saint Vincent 73, Washington & Jefferson 70
The Bearcats outscored the Presidents by five in the second half for a PAC triumph.
Mike Iuzzolino had 22 points for Saint Vincent, as he made four 3-pointers and was 8 for 10 at the foul line. Teammate Osyon Jones had 19 and Jaden Gales added 17. Corey Harden came off the bench to score 10 for the Bearcats (9-0, 14-0).
Alex Acosta led W&J (1-8, 2-12) in scoring with 17 points. Josh Chambers dropped 11 and Matthew Carte 10.
