California women’s hoops cruise past Wheeling

California overcame a slow start to cruise to an 81-56 victory over Wheeling on Saturday in Edinboro to win both games of the MEC/PSAC Conference Challenge.

The Vulcans trailed 21-19 after the opening 10 minutes before using a 22-11 advantage in the second period for a 41-32 halftime lead. California had a 20-14 edge in the third quarter and a 20-10 advantage in the fourth.

The Vulcans’ Alicia Young scored a game-high 17 points on seven field goals and three free throws, as Cal was 16 for 23 at the line. Teammate Nina Shaw had 16 points on six field goals, one 3-pointer, and three free throws. Allycia Harris added 15 on five field goals and five free throws.

Sierra Bermudez and Talia Gilliard each made two 3-pointers for California.
