Muskingum sinks Waynesburg with last-second free throw

WAYNESBURG – Tori Jones made a free throw with one second remaining to give Muskingum a 75-74 come-from-behind win over Waynesburg in a non-conference women’s basketball game Monday afternoon at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Kara Mcfadden had given Waynesburg (3-6) a 74-73 lead with 16 seconds remaining.
Mukingum’s Courtney Hivick tied the score at 74-74 by making one of two free throws with 10 seconds to play. Waynesburg then missed two shots in the final four seconds before Jones grabbed a rebound and was fouled with one second remaining. She missed the first of two free throws but made the second attempt to give the Muskies the win.
Waynesburg led 37-36 at halftime and 59-53 after three quarters.
The game was decided from behind the three-point line.The Muskies (4-4) converted 11 of 38 tries. The Yellow Jackets made only five of 29 three-point attempts. Waynesburg did outscore Muskingum by 11 points at the free-throw line.
Claudia Harrington led four Muskingum players in double figures with 15 points. Jones finished with seven points.
Kalista Friday had a big game for Waynesburg, scoring a game-high 23 points and pulling down nine rebounds. She also had three steals.
Kara McFadden chipped in with 11 points.
