The women’s basketball team at California evened its overall record Thursday by upsetting 16th-ranked and previously undefeated Malone, 72-61, in a non-conference game at the Convocation Center.

Trinity Balog scored a game-high 23 points for the Vulcans (6-6). She made a three-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter and give Cal a 48-45 lead. The Vulcans pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Cal’s Kennedy Bankett came off the bench to score 22 points on 8-for-9 shooting and Alicia Young had 13 points. The Vulcans shot 51 percent.

Malone (10-1) shot only 37 percent. Erin Kaufman led Malone with 17 points.
