Sabrina Bryan, a standout player on Canon-McMillan’s PIAA championship girls soccer team in 2016, might have thought her days of playing competitively were over when he finished her career at Hofstra University, but thanks to the Pittsburgh Riveters, she will have a chance to play again and do it locally.

The Riveters, who will debut in the USL’s W League in May, announced Wednesday that they have added Bryan, a forward/midfielder, to the roster.

The USL’s W League is a pre-professional league that began play in 2022. The Riveters will play their first season this year. Home games will be played at Highmark Stadium.

Bryan has ties to Pittsburgh as a former member of the Riverhounds Development Academy.

“Sabrina will bring a wealth of experience and knows what it means to have played for the Hounds Academy as a youth player,” Riveteres head coach Scott Gibson said in a release. “What she achieved at Hofstra is nothing short of amazing, and we are excited to see her come full circle as a Riveter this summer. She will offer great balance to the squad as a left-footed winger, and she is an exceptional 1-on-1 player.”

Bryan helped Canon-McMillan to two appearances in the PIAA finals, including a win over Central Bucks South in 2016. She had 31 goals and 28 assists that season.

She went on to have a stellar career at Hofstra, where she was a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association first team selection and twice the CAA Attacking Player of the Year and a third team All-American as a junior in 2019. As a senior, Bryan was named to the Watch List for the Hermann Trophy, college soccer’s top award. She finished her Hofstra career as the school’s all-time assists leader with 27 and sixth in goals with 33.
