Fast start propels W&J men past Waynesburg

Washington & Jefferson scored 15 of the first 17 points and didn’t look back from there, cruising to a 75-61 victory over Waynesburg in a PAC men’s basketball game Saturday.
The Presidents (7-3, 11-4) shot 54.3 percent from the field in the first half and Waynesburg (4-5, 6-8) shot only 36.7 percent.
Washington & Jefferson built a 43-26 advantage at the break.
Matt Seidl had 17 points to lead a balanced attack for the Presidents that saw five players score in double figures.
Alex Acosta finished with 16 points, Matthew Carte had 13 points and Nathan Plotner and Quinton Burlenski scored 10 each.
Plotner had 11 rebounds, securing his fifth double-double of the season.
Antone Baker led the Yellowjackets with 12 points. Casey Keesee and Aiden Blake scored nine points apiece. Keesee hit a trio of 3-pointers.
California 81, Seton Hill 73
Cam Polak netted a game-high 25 points and sank four 3-pointers to lead California (4-5, 9-8) to a PSAC road victory Saturday at Seton Hill (3-6, 10-7).
The Vulcans had an excellent day from the foul line, going 18 for 21. They went 8 for 8 at the line in the final minute, 30 seconds of the second half to secure the win.
Donald Whitehead Jr. had 18 points and played all 40 minutes for Cal.
Ryan Meis paced the Griffins with 23 points. Gage Lattimore added 15 points and Kedric Curtis scored 13.
Women’s Basketball
Washington & Jefferson 80, Waynesburg 54
Adalyn Cherry sank five 3-pointers to score a team-best 15 points to propel Washington & Jefferson (10-0, 13-2) past Waynesburg (2-7, 7-7) in a PAC game Saturday.
As a team, the Presidents hit 10 3-pointers. They used a 20-6 margin in the second quarter to build a 36-20 halftime lead.
Julz Mohrbacher scored a team-best 13 points for Waynesburg. Kalista Friday and Kara McFadden added 10 points each.
Seton Hill 93, California 74
California led 10th ranked Seton Hill by a point after one quarter, but the Griffins responded by winning the second quarter 22-12 and rolled from there to a victory in PSAC play Saturday.
Seton Hill used a 33-16 advantage in the third quarter to put the game away.
Christiane Frye had game-high 26 points for the Griffins (9-0, 15-1) and Mia Kalich had a double double with 20 points and 18 rebounds.
Iyahnna Williams scored 21 points for the Vulcans (4-5, 7-8) and Allycia Harris finished with 18 points.
Seton Hill shot 54 percent from the floor and were 6 of 12 from beyond the arc.
