With a first-round bye in the PSAC tournament at stake, the California (PA) men’s basketball team closed the regular season with an 88-64 win over Edinboro Saturday.
The Vulcans will host the winner of Edinboro-Seton Hill in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 5.
Edinboro (11-9, 15-12) and Cal (12-8, 17-11) entered the day tied in the PSAC West standings, but the Vulcans pulled away in the second half to secure second place and the bye.
They outscored the Fighting Scots, 49-33, in the second half.

The Vulcans will host a game in the PSAC Tournament for the fifth-straight season.
Women’s Basketball
In this day and age it’s not often that a team scores 81 points and does not record a three-point field goal, but that’s what Edinboro did on Saturday.
It was just enough to stymie Cal, as the Fighting Scots took home an 81-79 victory in the PSAC regular season finale.
The Scots (17-3, 22-5) made 29 two-point field goals and went 23 for 28 from the free throw line.
Cal (12-8, 16-11) battled foul trouble to the bulk of its starting lineup in the first half and fell behind 44-33 at the break.
Edinboro led by as many as 13 points, 67-54, early in the fourth quarter before Cal went on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to 69-64 with 5:22 left to play.
The Vulcans trailed by a single possession in the final 30 seconds before the Scots sealed the win at the free-throw line.
Cal travels to IUP for the opening round of the PSAC tournament, 6 p.m. Monday.
