Vulcans win opener at PSAC tournament

Nathan Meeks hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning for what proved to be the winning runs in a 7-4 victory for California over West Chester in the first round of the PSAC baseball tournament Wednesday at Millersville.

The Vulcans (35-11) trailed 4-3 entering the seventh after Ben Bolhouse homered for West Chester (35-15) in the sixth.

James Salvatori tied the game 4-4 with a sacrifice fly to left field prior to Meeks’ double. Salvatori added an insurance run in the eight with an RBI single and finished the day 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.

Santino Marra hit a solo homer to left field in the second for the Vulcans, who will play either Millersville or Slippery Rock in the second round Thursday.

The Millersville/Slippery Rock game finished past press time.

After the first round it is a double-elimination tournament.
