Small college basketball: CMU’s late sure beats W&J

Nikola Dimitrijevic scored a game-high 20 points and Evan Mirazimi made a tiebreaking three-point field goal with less than three minutes remaining, sparking Carnegie Mellon to a 76-70 victory over Washington on Tuesday night at Salvitti Family Gymnasium.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by W&J (3-2).
The Presidents trailed 43-35 at halftime. They battled back and were tied at 67-67 before Mirazimi’s three put the Tartans ahead for good. A layup by Isaac Higgs and a two-pointer by Mirazimi pushed CMU’s lead to 74-67 with 90 seconds remaining.
W&J was hurt by its outside game. The Presidents made only four of 23 shots from behind the arc.
Matthew Carte paced three W&J players in double figures with 16 points. Alex Acosta followed with 14 points, and Matt Seidl had 10.
Women’s result
Waynesburg 81, Carlow 56
Waynesburg picked up its first victory of the season, winning at Carlow 81-56 in a nonconference game.
Kara McFadden led a balanced scoring effort for Waynesburg (1-2) by tossing in 15 points. Clara Paige Miller followed with 13 points. Waynesburg had three players finish with nine points apiece.
The Yellow Jackets, who led 39-24 at halftime, made 11 three-point field goals and forced 22 turnovers.
Emari Stinnette had a game-high 20 points for Carlow (0-5).
