Loutsion scores 26 as W&J stays unbeaten

Stellanie Loutsion scored a game-high 26 points and the undefeated Washington & Jefferson women’s basketball team defeated Marietta 81-65 Friday night in the Pioneers’ Jim Meagle Classic.
W&J (4-0) pulled away in the second half and used a big advantage at the free-throw line to secure the win. The Presidents led 40-38 at halftime and then held Marietta (1-4) to only 12 points in the third quarter and 27 in the second half.
Loutsion helped her cause by making 11 of 13 free throws. The Presidents were 28-for-34 at the stripe.
Both teams made 24 field goals but Marietta was only 13-for-24 at the free-throw line.
Marina Grado followed Loutsion in the scoring column with 14 points, and Riley DeRubbo tossed in 13 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Reagan Kadlecik and Katie Kovalchick each scored 11 points, giving the Presidents five players in double figures.
Kelsey Harlan led Marietta with 21 points.
W&J will play nationally ranked Cortland on Saturday.
Mount Union 88, Waynesburg 66
Mount Union scored 53 points in the first half and cruised to an 88-66 victory over Waynesburg in the first round of the Yellow Jackets’ Omni Ink Tournament.
Mount Union (5-1) raced to a 53-33 halftime lead and then held Waynesburg (1-3) to nine points in the third quarter.
Elizabeth Mason and Bree McCabe tossed in 17 points each to lead the Raiders in scoring. Chelsea Evanich contributed 11 points and Anny Muckleroy had 10.
Mount Union made 12 of 16 shots in the first quarter and shot 45 percent from the field for the game.
Waynesburg’s Kalista Friday scored a game-high 18 points and Clara-Paige Miller had 17. Kara McFadden gave the Yellow jackets three players in double figures as she finished with 13 points.
Waynesburg made 10 three-point field goals, including three by Miller.
The Yellow Jackets will play Penn State Behrend on Saturday (3 p.m.).
