W&J’s rally fall short at Hampden-Sydney

Washington & Jefferson thought it had the game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but a holding penalty nullified it and Hamden-Sydney held on for a 38-31 win Saturday.
Marc Conti caught a 5-yard pass from Kellan Stahl with 11 seconds remaining, which would’ve cut the lead to one with an extra point pending if not for the penalty.
Washington & Jefferson (0-2) had one last chance, but Stahl’s pass fell incomplete as time expired.
The Presidents fell behind 17-3 early, but consecutive touchdown runs by Kobe Derosa and Stahl in the final two minutes of the second quarter pulled them even going into the break.
But Hampden-Sydney quarterback Carter Sido took over in the third quarter, hitting Jordan Jackson (29 yards), Manning Lasso (27 yards) and Kam Mahoney (31 yards) on touchdown passes. Sido had four touchdown passes in the game and had 285 yards passing.
Stahl passed for 281 yards.
Andrew Sharp scored on a one-yard run with 5:47 remaining in the fourth. He led the Presidents with 119 yards rushing.
Dickinson 52, Waynesburg 19
Dickinson scored a touchdown on each of its first four possessions on its way to securing a 52-19 victory over Waynesburg Saturday afternoon.
Ben Klassen threw three touchdown passes in the first half, two of which went to Kellen Boyer.
The Red Devils (1-1) added two more touchdowns on special teams in the third quarter, on a 94-yard kick return by Keesean Campbell and the other on a blocked punt that was returned 35 yards by Sixten Motivala.
Zayne Cawley scored on runs of six and two yards for Waynesburg (0-2) and Thomas Burke III threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Giovanni Cipoletti as time expired in the fourth quarter.
