College basketball: Vulcans push winning streak to 7 games

Jordyn Buchanan scored a game-high 26 points and added six assists as hot-shooting California rolled to a 91-72 victory over East Stroudsburg in a PSAC men’s basketball game Friday evening at the Convocation Center.

Cal (5-0, 8-4) remained unbeaten in PSAC play and ran its winning streak to seven games.

The Vulcans shot a bliserting 61 percent in the first half and 60 percent for the game.

Buchanan made 10 of 15 shots, and Bryson Lucas added 18 points and eight rebounds. Antoine Arnett scored 17 points for the Vulcans, who led 48-36 at halftime. The Vulcans outscored the Warriors 29-13 over the final 10 minutes of the first half to take control of the game.

Nasir Griffin, with 12 points, was the only player to score in double figures for East Stroudsburg (1-4, 7-4).

Women’s result

California 70, East Stroudsburg 50

Macy Sardone came off the bench and scored 15 points – all from behind the three-point line – and Alicia Young also netted 15 as California routed visiting East Stroudsburg 70-50 at the Convocation Center.

Cal moved its record above the .500 mark at 8-7 overall, but more importantly the Vulcans are 4-1 in PSAC play.

Cal forged a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and stayed ahead at each of the quarter stops. The Vulcans led 34-23 at halftime.

Cal held East Stroudsburg (2-3, 7-4) to 32 percent shooting and hammered the Warriors on the boards, 49-35.

Trinity Balog scored 14 points for Cal.

Brooke Droege led three East Stroudsburg players in double figures with 12 points.
