Manfredo scores 31 as Edinboro ousts Cal
EDINBORO – Rachel Manfredo scored 31 points in only 26 minutes of playing time, powering Edinboro to an 85-64 win over California in the first round of the PSAC women’s basketball tournament Monday.
The loss ends the season for the Vulcans, who finish with a 13-18 record. Cal had its two-game winning streak snapped.
Edinboro (18-12) took control early, racing out to a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter as the Fighting Scots shot 91 percent (10-for-11) from the field. Edinboro went into halftime with a 38-22 lead and stretched it to 68-47 after three quarters.
Manfredo made 14 of 20 shots as the Fighting Scots shot 58 percent for the game.
Taylor Blunt added 16 points for Edinboro and Carmen Vasquez scored 12.
Cal, which never led in the game, was paced in scoring by Hope Hawkins’ 17 points. Kimaya Williams and Kennedy Bankett both had 11 points and Trinity Balog scored 10.
Edinboro outrebounded California 41-25.
