Evan Bert pitched a shutout with 12 strikeouts. Zack Chadwell drove in six runs and Bridgewater (Va.) defeated Washington & Jefferson 11-0 in an elimination game Saturday morning in the NCAA Division III baseball regional at Ross Memorial Park.

W&J ends the season with a 32-13 record and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship.

Bert scattered eight hits and walked two to improve his record to 8-4. Bridgewater advanced to another elimination game Saturday night.

Chadwell went 3-for-5 with a three-run double and a two-run homer. Chandler Valbak added a two-run homer.

Bridgewater scored two runs in the first inning and Chadwell’s home run made it 4-0 in the third.

Zac Stern had two hits for W&J.

“It’s been one of the more enjoyable groups I’ve ever coached,” W&J coach Jeff Mountain said. “Last year was obviously not the outcome we’re accustomed to here. Sometimes you must take a step backwards to take a step forward. I think to some extent that happened this year. I think these guys did a great job of leading the group. These guys set the tone for the season.”
