High school baseball: Carmichaels stays unbeaten; Trinity holds off USC
Liam Lohr and Aydan Adamson combined on a four-hit shutout as Carmichaels remained undefeated with a 6-0 win at California in Class A Section 1 on Monday.
Lohr struck out nine over five winning for the win and Adamson got the final six outs for a save as Carmichaels improved to 3-0 in the section and 5-0 overall.
The Mikes led 3-0 after six innings and broke the game open with a three-run seventh.
Robbie Wilson-Jones had a double for the Mikes.
California starter Caden Monticelli allowed three runs (one earned) over 5⅔ innings. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.
West Greene 7, Jefferson-Morgan 4
West Greene broke open a close game in the middle innings to defeat visiting Jefferson-Morgan 7-4 in Class A Section 1.
West Greene scored twice in the fourth inning to go on top 3-1 and added three runs in the fifth.
Lane Allison was the winning pitcher in relief and drove in two runs. Colin Brady also had two RBI for West Greene (3-2, 3-2). The Pioneers’ Morgan Kiger had a double.
Brenton Barnhart doubled for J-M (0-5, 2-5).
Trinity 4, Upper St. Clair 3
J.R. Rieg pitched seven strong innings and Karson Hathaway hit a key two-run single in the fifth inning, lifting Trinity to a 4-3 win over Upper St. Clair in a Class 5A Section 2 game at Ross Memorial Park.
Hathaway’s hit was part of a three-run fifth that erased a 3-1 deficit for Trinity.
Rieg kept the Hillers (3-2, 4-3) ahead by scattering seven hits and striking out four. He walked only one batter.
Hathaway finished with three RBI to go with a double. Kaden Hathaway also doubled.
Charleroi 6, Washington 3
Kaden Woods struck out 10 over six innings and Charleroi picked up a road win in Class 2A Section 1, beating Washington, 6-3.
Jace Pager hit two triples and scored twice, and Tyler O’neil drove in a pair of runs for Charleroi (3-2, 5-3).Tyler Bainer and Caleb patton each had a triple for Wash High (3-2, 4-3). Var Chandler had three singles.
Greensburg Salem 5, McGuffey 4
Nick Heinnickle’s two-out single in the bottom seventh inning scored Dom Rosensteel from second base and gave Greensburg Salem a 5-4 win over visiting McGuffey in Class 3A Section 4.
The run came after McGuffey (2-2, 2-3) scored four times in the top of the seventh to tie the score. The Highlanders scored on four bases-loaded walks.
Chartiers-Houston 12, Bentworth 2
Chartiers-Houston extended its winning streak to three games with a 12-2 win at Bentworth in Class 2A Section 1.
Jake Perchinsky had a double and three RBI to lead the Bucs (3-0, 3-3) at the plate. Aaron Walsh scored three runs.
Winning pitcher Dominic Cumer allowed four hits over six innings. He struck out seven.
Uniontown 2, Ringgold 1
Tate Musko struck out 16 over six innings and Wyatt Nehls hit a two-run homer as Uniontown edged Ringgold 2-1 in Class 4A Section 2.
Musko allowed three hits and one unearned run for the Red Raiders (1-2, 2-4). Ringgold is 0-3 and 2-5.
Connellsville 5, South Fayette 4
Connellsville built an early three-run lead and then held off a late charge to beat South Fayette 5-4 in Class 5A Section 2.
Connellsville (3-2, 5-5) made the most of only four hits. The Falcons led 5-2 entering the seventh inning, when South Fayette (3-2, 4-2) pushed two runs across on a single by Ethan Rose. The Lions, however, left the tying run at second base.
