Barnyak strikes out 12 in Mikes’ 5-2 win

Bailey Barnyak struck out 12 and Carmichaels scored three runs in the fourth inning in a 5-2 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in Class A Section 2 softball play on Saturday.

Barnyak yielded two earned runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings. The Mikes’ Kaitlyn Waggett had two hits and an RBI.

The Rockets’ Addalei Larkin had two hits. Teammates Kayla Larkin and Kallyn Novak doubled. Novak had one of two RBI for Jefferson-Morgan (5-4, 5-6).

Carmichaels improved to 7-1 in section play and 10-2 overall.

Track & field

Tim Danziger won in front of his home crowd on Saturday at the South Fayette Invitational.

Danziger won the boys 3,200-meter run in 9:43.52. Teammate Alaa-Eddine Guetral was third in the 800 with a time of 1:57.13.

Canon-McMillan’s Louis Liberatore was second in the javelin with a throw of 167-03. Fort Cherry’s Jonah Pfender took third in the shot put at 53-06.

Peters Township’s Grace Senneway won the girls 1,600-meter run in 5:04.05. The Indians’ Tessa Hazzard was third in the pole vault at 10-03.

Burgettstown’s Peyton Mermon won the javelin with a toss of 116-09. Canon-McMillan’s Abby Tucker was second in 115-06.

South Fayette’s Madeline Stock was second in the 800 in 2:17.86. Fort Cherry’s 4×800 relay team was second in 10:02.16.
