High school basketball: Beth-Center gets fast start to season

Jason Zellie scored 19 points as fast-starting Beth-Center cruised to a 62-36 victory over visiting Bentworth in a non-section game Monday night.

Beth-Center (1-0) raced to a 24-3 in the first eight minutes.

Bentworth (0-1) outscored the Bulldogs 33-32 the rest of the way.

Brayden Hull followed Zellie in the scoring column with 17 points. Zellie and Hull each tossed in three three-point field goals.

Bentworth’s Chris Harper and Ben Hays each scored 10 points.

Girls results

Washington 70, Frazier 18

Olivia Woods and Kyndra Wynn scored 19 points apiece to help Washington (1-0) earn a 70-18 nonsection victory over Frazier.

Xavier King scored 16 points and Teyler Barnes added 12 for the Little Prexies. Wynn grabbed 11 rebounds.

Washington shut out the Commodores, 23-0, in the second quarter and held them to single-digit point totals in all four quarters.

Bishop Canevin 47, Burgettstown 24

Bella Sysak had a game-high 23 points and Kya Cooley scored 13 to pace Bishop Canevin (1-0) in a 47-24 nonsection win over Burgettstown (1-2). Savanna Rush led the Blue Devils with 15 points.

Mapletown 49, Propel Montour 14

Nicole Barrera recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, leading Mapletown to a 49-18 nonsection win over Propel Montour (0-1).

Emma Zalar added a game-high 15 points for the Maples (1-2) and Sophia Jennings snagged eight rebounds.

Belle Vernon 56, Rochester 51

Saylor Lee had 19 points to help Belle Vernon edge Rochester, 56-51, in a nonsection contest.

Aubrey Brown finished with 13 points for the Leopards (2-1). Tia Yellock had a game-high 22 points for the Rams (0-2) and Neveah Squires scored 11.
