High school basketball: Moore nets 30 as Belle Vernon rallies late
Zion Moore scored a game-high 30 points and rallied Belle Vernon from a halftime deficit to a 74-63 victory in a non-section boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Belle Vernon (3-2) trailed 38-33 at halftime and was still behind, 51-50, at the end of three quarters. The Leopards, however, outscored McKeesport by a 24-12 margin in the pivotal fourth quarter.
Tommy Davis had 16 points and eight rebounds for BelleVernon.
McKeesport (1-4) was led by Lamong Perkins’ 21 points. Brian Jones added 19 points, including six three-point field goals.
South Fayette 57, Seneca Valley 29
Undefeated South Fayette got defensive and shut down Seneca Valley 57-29 in a non-section game.
The Lions (2-0) held Seneca Valley to four points in both the first and third quarters and led 24-18 at halftime and 39-22 at the end of three quarters.
Gavin Orosz led the offense for South fayette with a game-high 18 points. Stefano Vezio also hit double figures, finishing with 13.
Seneca Valley (1-5) was led in scoring by Owen Congdon’s eight points.
Charleroi 65, Carmichaels 30
Braden Todaro and Shea Smith each scored 13 points, leading Charleroi to its second win in as many nights as the Cougars defeated visiting Carmichaels, 65-30
Charleroi (3-2) won Monday night at Bentworth, 48-46.
Against Carmichaels, the Cougars were dominant, leading 36-12 at halftime. Noah Pletcher and Amaru Straub each chipped in with 11 points for the Cougars.
In the win over Bentworth, Jackson Keranko had a big game, scoring a game-high 18 points. Smith also was in double figures with 12 points.
Frazier 59, Mapletown 28
Dailan McManus scored 18 points, Kolby Stewart and Conlan Higbee each added 14 each and Frazier rolled to a 59-28 win over Mapletown in a nonsection game on the Maples’ home court.
Frazier (2-3) was in control throughout, leading 24-8 after one quarter and 36-14 halftime.
Lucas Stevenson led Mapletown (0-3) with seven points.
South Side Beaver 76, Burgettstown 48
South Side Beaver scored 31 points in the first quarter and went on to a 76-48 road win over Burgettstown in a nonsection contest.
Andrew Corfield and Carter Wilson combined for 48 points for the Rams (3-2) with Corfield leading the way with 25.
Burgettstown (1-2) received 14 points from Parker Rommes and 10 from Ryan Warrick.
Jefferson-Morgan 47, Bentworth 29
Dayten Marion scored 15 points, Jase Bedillion had 13 and Jefferson-Morgan played solid defense in stopping host Bentworth, 47-29.
J-M (2-2) held Bentworth to four points in the first quarter as the Rockets bolted out to a nine-point lead. Bentworth (2-2) closed to within 17-13 at halftime but the Rockets pulled away in the second half.
Chris Harper paced the Bearcats with 11 points.
Avella 55, West Greene 50
Brayden Fuller scored 20 points to lead Avella to a 55-50 home-court victory over West Greene in nonsection play.
Avella (3-2) trailed 25-22 at halftime and 37-35 after three quarters. The Eagles won with a 20-13 edge in the final quarter.
Eli Maidment tossed in 13 points for Avella and Bryce Wright had a solid all-around game with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
West Greene’s Parker Durbin scored a game-high 18 points. Parker Burns followed with 12.
Canon-McMillan 76, Bethel Park 70
Roman Koenemund poured in 27 points and Canon-McMillan won its first game of the season, topping Bethel Park in a nonsection contest.
Michael Detrich added 15 points for the Big Macs (1-3) and Dylan Kelly scored 13.
Will Sabatos led the Black Hawks (1-3) with 18 points and Owen Turoski added 10 points.
Laurel Highlands 78, Waynesburg 44
Antwan Black had 18 points to pace Laurel Highlands (2-2) in a nonsection win. Luke Martin scored 17 and Kayden Smith chipped in 12 points for the Mustangs. Jackson Dean scored 10 points for Waynesburg (0-4) and Alex Eck pulled down 17 rebounds.

Canon-McMillan 57, Bethel Park 42
Sam Miller led three Canon-McMillan players in double figures with 17 points as the Big Macs cruised to a 57-42 home-court win over Bethel Park in nonsection action.
Madison Clair followed with 13 points and Faye Saunders had 12 for the Big Macs (3-2).
It was the first loss for Bethel Park (2-1).
