High school basketball: County wastes no time in Burgettstown victory
Colton County scored all of his game-high 18 points in the first half and Burgettstown defeated visiting Hillel Academy, 73-36 in a nonsection boys basketball game Monday night on the Blue Devils’ home court.
County’s big half helped Burgettstown (3-6) forge a 45-19 lead at halftime and the Blue Devils cruised the rest of the way.
Bryce Speer was the only other player in double figures for Burgettstown with his 11 points.
Coby Shaw scored 10 for Hillel (1-2).
Girls results
West Greene 63, Jefferson-Morgan 29
West Greene raced to an 18-point lead at the end of the first quarter and went on to a 63-29 nonsection victory over visiting Jefferson-Morgan.
The Pioneers (6-2) scored 46 points in the first half. Kendra Tharp led West Greene with a career-high 24 points and Madelyn Roberts followed with 15.
Leighana Wood tallied 16 points, including four three-point baskets, to lead Jefferson-Morgan in scoring.
South Fayette 54, Folsom (Calif.) 53
Haylie Lamonde and Ryan Oldaker combined for 34 points and South fayette overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to beat Folsom (Calif.) 54-53 in the Tampa Bay Invitational.
South Fayette (9-1) led 26-22 at halftime but fell behind 42-40 after three quarters.
Lamonde led the Lions with 18 points and Oldaker followed with 16.
Faolsom’s record dropped to 8-2.
Allderdice 43, Belle Vernon 38
Allderice battled back from an early seven-point deficit and defeated Belle Vernon 43-38 at the PennWest California Hoopfest.
Belle Vernon (4-6) led 13-6 after one quarter but was outscored 9-3 in the second period. Allderdice finally moved ahead with an 11-8 scoring edge in the third quarter.
Bailey White did much of the scoring for Allderdice (5-5), tossing in 18 points.
Aubrey Brown had a double-double for Belle Vernon, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Leopards’ Saylor Lee pulled down 19 rebounds.
In other games
The Thomas Jefferson girls were a 51-44 winner over Canon-McMillan in the PennWest California Hoopfest. No game details were reported by press time. The Chartiers-Houston at Washington girls game that was originally scheduled for Monday was postponed and rescheduled for Jan. 15.
