Seven local players on all-state baseball teams

Seven local players were named to the Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association All-State team that was released Monday.
Three of the seven were first-team selections. They included Trinity junior shortstop Matt Robaugh in Class 5A, Waynesburg junior shortstop Alex VanSickle in Class 3A and Fort Cherry sophomore shortstop Matt Sieg in Class A.
Robaugh batted .469 in the regular season with five home runs and 26 RBI. He was one of only three players from the WPIAL selected to the Class 5A first team. There are six infielders selected on the first team.
VanSickle was second in the WPIAL in hitting during the regular season with a .617 average (37-for-60) and helped Waynesburg to an 11-0 start to the season and a berth in the WPIAL playoffs. The shortstop also scored 27 runs.
Van Sickle’s teammate, junior first baseman Derek Turcheck, was named to the All-State second team. Turcheck had 21 RBI this spring.
Sieg, Fort Cherry’s four-sport standout and the Observer-Reporter’s Male Athlete of the Year, was named to the Class A first team at shortstop. Sieg batted .529 during the regular season with four home runs, 24 RBI and 24 runs. He helped the Rangers win the Class A Section 1 title. Sieg was one of three players from the WPIAL on the first team.
Chartiers-Houston senior catcher Luke Camden and Burgettstown senior Brodie Kuzior were selected for the Class 2A second team. Kuzior was selected as a utility player. Kuzior, a lefthander, was one of the top pitchers in the WPIAL.
Belle Vernon senior outfielder Adam LaCarte was named to the Class 4A second team. LaCarte helped Belle Vernon win the section championship. He batted .426 with four home runs, 18 RBI, 16 runs and seven stolen bases.
