High school softball: SF’s Cavenaugh drives in 7
Leadoff hitter Maddie Cavenaugh went 4-for-4 with four runs, two home runs and seven RBI, powering South Fayette to a 14-1 win in six innings Friday at Chartiers Valley.
Cavenaugh hit a three-run homer in the second inning and a grand slam in the sixth.
Winning pitcher Emma Earley struck out 10 and did not issue a walk.
Liv Bonacci was 3-for-4 with a double.
• Bailey Barnyak fired a two-hitter and struck out 15 as Carmichaels defeated visiting Albert Gallatin, 3-1.
The Mikes (2-0) made the most of only two hits against Avery Walls, who struck out six.
Carmichaels scored a run in the first inning and two more in the fifth, one on an RBI single by Kaitlyn Waggett.
• Katelyn Wenzel went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and three RBI as Hendersonville (Tenn.) defeated Trinity 11-1 at Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Trinity was held to four hits, including two by Ally Krenzelak, who started the game with a home run.
• Hendersonville also broke a 1-1 tie by scoring four times in the sixth inning to defeat Bentworth, 6-1.
Bentworth pitcher Sydney Gonglik struck out 10 and hit a solo home run for the Bearcats’ lone run.
• Raya Sentipal and Andi Midler combined for 10 RBI, sparking Burgettstown to a 21-3 win over South Side Beaver in six innings.
Sentipal went 4-for-4 with five runs, five RBI, a grand slam and a double. Midler was 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, a home run and two doubles.
Burgettstown, which had 25 hits, scored 11 runs in the sixth inning. Emma McGregor also homered, and Brooklyn Robinson and Taylor Grace doubled.
• Adrianna Matz’s bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Franklin Regional a 4-3 victory over Jefferson-Morgan in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Jefferson-Morgan had tied the score at 3-3 with a run in the top of the seventh when Emilee Bazzoli hit an RBI triple, but the Rockets had the potential go-ahead run thrown out at the plate on the play.
Celina Camacho and Toryn Fulton homered for Franklin Regional.
Bazzoli struck out nine in 6 ⅔ innings. Addyson Teagarden had a double among her three hits for the Rockets.
• East Ridge (Fla.) scored in every inning and defeated Peters Township 17-1 in five innings at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. Elena Tylka and Zoe Lipinski the only hits for PT.
• Lauren VanDivner and Mailey Hayes each homered as Belle Vernon defeated host Waynesburg, 12-3.
Winning pitcher Talia Ross struck out 13 and walked only one. Gracie Sokol went 4-for-5 with a double and drove in four runs.
Avery Davis hit two doubles for Waynesburg.
• Winning pitcher Sofia Celaschi went 4-for-4 with three doubles as Charleroi defeated host Mapletown 14-2 in five innings.
The Cougars’ Emma Stefanick hit a three-run homer, Kaylee Sypolt tripled, and Ariahna Blouse and Riley Jones doubled.
Mapletown’s Treslee Weston had two hits, including a triple, and Isabella Garnek doubled.
• Frazier rolled to a 14-0 win over Monessen in three innings.
• California lost at McKeesport, 15-0, in three innings.
