High school baseball: Mount Pleasant moves past Waynesburg
Mount Pleasant took control of the Class 3A Section 4 title race with a 6-1 victory over visiting Waynesburg on Wednesday.
Mount Pleasant’s Connor Drzal pitched a complete-game four-hitter and struck out 10. He took a shutout into the seventh inning.
The win makes Mount Pleasant 9-1 in the section and 11-4 overall. Waynesburg drops to second place at 8-2 in section and 11-2 overall.
Drzal helped his cause with a double and two RBI.
Grant Pack had a double for Waynesburg.
Washington 6, Jefferson-Morgan 5
Var Chandler hit a game-tying RBI triple and scored the eventual game-winning run on a single by Caleb Patton, capping Washington’s four-run sixth inning as the Prexies edged Jefferson-Morgan 6-5 in a non-section game.
Washington (7-8) trailed 5-2 entering the bottom of the sixth.
Joe Wilson had a triple and Isaac Charnik doubled for the Prexies. Chandler was the winning pitcher with three innings of relief.
Brayden Ellsworth went 3-for-3 with three RBI for J-M (6-7). Jaymison Robinson and Deakyn Dehoet doubled.
