High school baseball: Burgettstown shuts out Charleroi
Class 2A Section 1 leader Burgettstown made the most of only three hits and defeated host Charleroi 9-0 Friday.
The win moves Burgettstown to 9-1 in the section and 9-3-1 overall. Charleroi is 6-4, 9-6.
Burgettstown took advantage of five Charleroi errors and nine walks issued by three Cougars pitchers.
The Blue Devils scored four runs in the third inning, when they had two of their three hits, including a two-run single by Riley Kennedy.
Eric Kovach pitched five innings and combined with Brodie Kuzior on a five-hit shutout. The duo had a combined 14 strikeouts with Kovach notching 10.
Brownsville 8, California 1
Hunter Pelehac threw a three-hitter and Brownsville defeated California 8-1 in a non-section game.
Kaden Weston had a double for California (4-12).
Chartiers Valley 9, South Fayette 7
Chartiers Valley scored the game’s first nine runs before holding off a comeback to beat South Fayette 9-7 in non-section action.
Tyler Schepis had a double and drove in three runs for South Fayette (7-6). Gino Satira had three singles and Brayden Harris doubled.
