High school softball: Bentworth finishes unbeaten in section
Sydney Gonglik hit a solo homer and struck out 13, and Aubrie Logan went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBI, sparking Class 2A Section 3 champion Bentworth to a 13-0 victory in five innings over Beth-Center on Tuesday.
The Bearcats finished section play at 12-0 and 14-2 overall. They have won 13 in a row.
West Greene 6, Waynesburg 2
Sammi Zimmerman hit a two-run homer and finished with four RBI, leading West Greene to a 6-2 win at Waynesburg in a non-section game.
Payton Gilbert was the winning pitcher with three innings of relief as West Greene improved its record to 11-6.
Gina Tedrow struck out 12 for Waynesburg (6-11). Aidan Snider, Dani Stockdale and Eva Pester each had a double for the Raiders.
Charleroi 3, Ringgold 0
Starter Sophia Celaschi and reliever Lyla Brunner combined on a three-hit shutout as Charleroi blanked visiting Ringgold 3-0 in a non-section game.
Celaschi struck out eight over five innings and Brunner fanned three in getting a save.
Charleroi (13-4) pushed across single runs in three different innings to win its fourth in a row. Celaschi hit a double.
Losing pitcher Dani Vecchio also hit a double. Vecchio struck out seven.
Chartiers Valley 12, Trinity 6
Taylor Walsh struck out 12 and Lily Duffill hit a two-run homer, powering Chartiers Valley to a 12-6 win over visiting Trinity in non-section action.
CV (13-3) forged an early 5-0 lead. Trinity (11-4) closed to within 5-4 in the top of the fourth. The Colts responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Trinity cut the gap again, to 9-6, but Duffill’s homer was part of a three-run sixth that sealed the win for CV.
Emily Hasson, Nina Christy and Alexa Zawacki each doubled for Trinity.
Bethel Park 6, Canon-McMillan 5
Rebecca Gillenberger homered and Bethel Park used three two-run innings to beat Canon-McMillan 6-5 in non-section play.
Canon-McMillan (6-11) trailed 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh. The Big Macs scored three times but left the tying run on second base.
Skylah Steban, Olivia Ford and Leah LaSalvia each contributed a double for Canon-Mac.
Peters Township 6, Searra Catholic 2
Liliana Giulianelli pitched five shutout innings and Natalie Chapas drove in two runs as Peters Township snapped an 11-game losing streak by defeating Serra Catholic 6-2 in a non-section contest.
Giulianelli struck out seven and allowed only one hit in her five innings of relief.
Chapas and Skylar Lemansky tripled for PT (5-14). Giulianelli and Avery Carson had doubles.
Brownsville 15, Monessen 0
Ava Clark fired a four-inning perfect game and also hit a two-run homer as Brownsville defeated Monessen 15-0 in a non-section game.
Clark struck out nine and did not issue a walk.
Zaydee Downer added a three-run homer for Brownsville (5-9).
