Aliquippa holds off Trinity
ALIQUIPPA – Tikey Hayes scored two of Aliquippa’s three second-quarter touchdowns and the Quips held off visiting Trinity 34-14 in a Class 4A first-round playoff game Friday night.
Hayes scored on runs of 32 and two yards to give Aliquippa a 14-0 lead. His first TD run came on the opening play of the second quarter.
The Quips (7-2) pushed their lead to 21-0 at halftime with a 22-yard scoring pass from Marques Council to Qa’Lil Goode with only 35 seconds left in the first half.
Trinity (5-6) managed a comeback. The Hillers closed to within 21-7 in the third quarter when Caden Vogel hauled in a 28-yard TD pass from Jonah Williamson in the third quarter. Williamson later had a 25-yard scoring run negated by a penalty. The drive ended with a blocked 22-yard field goal.
After Marques Council threw a 48-yard touchdown to Antonio Reddic that made it 27-7, Williamson ran 18 yards for a touchdown with 2:42 remaining.
Williamson rushed for 140 yards on 30 carries and passed for 107 yards.
Hayes scored his third touchdown of the game on a 49-yard run on the ensuing possession.
