Belle Vernon junior Gabby Dusi finished second in the PIAA Class 2A individual tournament on Saturday in Hershey.

Gabby Dusi ran into a buzz saw Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club.

The Belle Vernon junior had already made history as the first player in school history to advance to the state final in tennis.

Dusi, who has two WPIAL titles, another school first in tennis, dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match to Wyoming Seminary senior Ilana Rosenthal in the Class 2A girls individual final.

Rosenthal went on to win her third straight state championship.

Dusi was the only opponent who won a game against Rosenthal in the tournament, as she won her first three matches, 6-0, 6-0.

Dusi, who plays as an independent because Belle Vernon doesn’t have a tennis team, won her first-round match, 6-0, 6-0, before a 6-3, 6-3 triumph in the quarterfinals Friday evening.

Dusi earned a three-set victory over Cathedral Prep sophomore Paige Patsy, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2, in the semifinals Saturday morning.
