Girls soccer: Bentworth avenges lone setback
Bentworth avenged its only loss of the season by defeating visiting Chartiers-Houston 2-0 in Class A Section 2 Wednesday night.
Chartiers-Houston defeated Bentworth 1-0 on Sept. 18.
This time, Bella Moyer scored what proved to be the only goal the Bearcats (8-1, 14-1) would need. Megan Keturakis tacked on an insurance goal and goalkeeper Nita Anderson kept Chartiers-Houston off the scoreboard.
“So proud of the girls,” Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra said. “They followed the game plan to a tee. They get along so well and really play and support each other. It makes my job very easy.”
N Ava Scalise scored three goals – all in the first half – Chessa Mertz and Sammy Mincone each had two scores and Belle Vernon rolled to a 10-0 victory over Charleroi in the Class 2A Section 1 finale.
Belle Vernon, which led 4-0 at halftime, improved its records to 8-4 in section and 9-8 overall.
