Trinity’s Mauro carries the day with 353 yards, 5 TDs
HEIDELBERG – Nico Mauro rushed for an amazing 353 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries as Trinity ran over host Chartiers Valley 49-21 in a Class 3A Big Six Conference game Friday night.
Mauro led a ground track by TrInity (2-1, 3-5) that rolled up 500 yards. Owen Gardner added 116 yards on only seven carries. He scored one touchdown.
Mauro had scoring runs of 53 and 33 yards in the first half, which ended with Trinity leading 14-0. In the second half, Mauro tacked on scoring jaunts of two, 37 and 58 yards.
Gardner’s TD run covered 49 yards in the third quarter and gave the Hillers a 28-7 lead.
Jonah Williams added a scoring scamper of nine yards early midway through the fourth quarter.
The win keeps Trinity one game behind conference leader Thomas Jefferson.
Chartiers Valley (1-2, 3-4) had two touchdown passes from Luke Miranda.
