Peters Township boys soccer tops Seneca Valley

Peters Township conceded an early goal but rallied for a 2-1 victory of Seneca Valley in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class 4A boys soccer playoffs Saturday at Confluence Financial Partners Stadium on the campus of Peters Township Middle School.
The Indians (16-1-1) advanced to the semifinals, where they will play Fox Chapel (11-4-2) on Tuesday with the site and time to be determined.
Mark McConahy finished a cross from Tyler Prex at the two-minute mark of the first half for a 1-0 lead before Jeven Kelly tied the match for a 1-1 halftime score.
Anthony Maiello scored the game winner with 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Alex Parise split two defenders before passing to Maiello for the finish.
Plum 3, Canon-McMillan 2, 2OT
The eighth-seeded Big Macs pushed Plum to the limit, but the Mustangs prevailed in double overtime on Fedgy Fertil’s game winner Saturday at Plum.
Canon-McMillan’s season comes to an end at 12-5-2, while Plum (16-0-3) advances to Tuesday’s semifinals against North Allegheny. The site and time are to be determined.
Girls soccer
Bentworth saw its season come to an end in a 4-0 setback to Winchester Thurston on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class A playoffs at Confluence Financial Partners Stadium on the campus of Peters Township Middle School.
Winchester Thurston (14-5) advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals against Seton LaSalle (14-2-2). The site and time are to be determined.
“Hats off to Winchester Thurston, who are a really good team with 10 seniors,” Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra said. “I believe they fell in the quarterfinals three years in a row before this. They have obviously been dedicated to the process and building to finally punch through.
“I am so proud of the girls this year. They set out the goals they circled off a year early, which is such a testament to their hard work. We are excited to get back into it, have a good offseason, reset and improve.”
The Bearcats finished the season at 16-2.
Margherita Memoli recorded a hat-trick and Avi Keller also scored for Winchester Thurston. Meredith Snyder had three assists and Maeve Dever posted the clean sheet.
Girls volleyball
South Fayette had a two-set lead over Hampton, but the Talbots rallied for a 3-2 triumph Saturday in the quarterfinals of the WPIAL Class 3A playoffs Hampton.
The fourth-seeded Talbots (13-5) advanced to Wednesday’s semifinal to face top-seeded Beaver (17-3) at North Allegheny High School at 7:30 p.m.
The 12th-seeded Lions (10-8) won the first two sets (25-22, 25-20) before Hampton rallied for victories in the final three (25-22, 26-24, 15-8).
