Doppelheuer scores twice but Leopards fall to TJ
JEFFERSON HILLS – Kole Doppelheuer caught two passes for 137 yards and two scores but Thomas Jefferson scored 35-straight points in a 42-14 victory over Belle Vernon in a Class 4A Big Six Conference game Friday night at Thomas Jefferson.
Doppelheuer pulled in a 45-yard reception from Curtis Wade and Preston Rathway connected on the first of two extra points and the Leopards (0-1, 1-3) had a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.
The Jaguars (1-0, 6-0) responded with three touchdowns in the second quarter, which started on Tyler Eber’s 17-yard run. Sam Wessel made the first of six PATs for a 7-7 game.
Luke Kosko threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brayden White and Eber scored on a two-yard to increase Thomas Jefferson’s advantage to 21-7 at halftime.
Kosko and Eber added one-yard touchdown runs before Doppelheuer scored on a 92-yard touchdown reception from Wade.
Emmett Forte closed the scoring for the Jaguars on a 13-yard run.
Wade was 7 of 19 for 188 yards and the two touchdowns to Doppelheuer.
Kosko was 8 of 19 for 158 yards and a touchdown. White caught 5 passes for 101 yards and Eber rushed for 175 yards on 38 carries.
