Welhorsky does little of everything in SF’s shutout win
McDONALD – Drew Welhorsky threw two touchdown passes, ran for two scores and caught a TD pass as South Fayette remained undefeated and won its Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference opener over visiting Baldwin 38-0 Friday night.
Welhorsky threw scoring passes covering 35 yards to Ben Cavenaugh and 32 yards to Aiden Martincic, both in the first quarter.
Before the quarter ended, Welhorsky ran 12 yards to the end zone to give South Fayette (1-0, 6-0) a commanding 21-0 lead.
Luke Gillen booted a 32-yard field goal in the second quarter and Welhorsky tacked on a 41-yard scoring scamper as the Lions led 31-0 at halftime.
The only touchdown of the second half was a two-yard pass from Cavenaugh to Welhorsky.
Welhorsky completed nine of 11 passes for 156 yards and ran for 121 yards on nine carries.
The shutout was the second of the season for the South Fayette defense.
