High school softball: Danneker and Ray shine for Trinity in win
Kaylee Danneker homered, drove in four and combined with Maddie Ray on a five-inning no-hitter and Trinity crushed Albert Gallatin 11-1 in a Class 5A Section 4 game Monday.
Danneker hit a three-run homer in the second inning as the Hillers (1-0, 3-3) forged leads of 8-0 after two innings and 11-0 after three. Ray pitched three innings, striking out three and not walking a batter. Danneker struck out four over two innings.
Ally Krenzelak hit a triple and Gabby Humphreys had a double.
Waynesburg 7, Jefferson Morgan 3
Winning pitcher Gina Tedrow went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and three RBI as Waynesburg defeated Jefferson-Morgan 7-3 in nonsection action.
Tedrow had a wild outing in the circle as she allowed only three hits but walked 10 and struck out 13.
Bre Kerr also had a big game at the plate for Waynesburg (3-3) with a home run, double and two RBI.
Hempfield 10, Canon-McMillan 0
Undefeated Hempfield was a 10-0 winner in five innings over Canon-McMillan in Class 6A Section 1.
Allie Cervola and Julia Varhola each homered for the Spartans (3-0, 7-0), who scored in every inning. Canon-Mac (0-3, 2-4) was held to one hit.
Bethel Park 14, Peters Township 7
Bethel Park took advantage of a pair of five-run innings and beat Peters Township 14-7 in Class 5A Section 4.
Bethel Park (1-0, 5-0) hit three home runs and had 18 hits.
Peters Township (0-2, 2-4) was held to five hits. Addie Brunette drove in a pair of runs.
South Park 2, Bentworth 0
South Park scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and edged visiting Bentworth 2-0 in a nonsection game.
South Park scored on a two-run homer by Emma Hays and winning pitcher Sydney Sekely threw a three-hit shutout.
Bentworth starting pitcher Sydney Gonglik gave up one hit and one walk in three innings. She struck out six.
West Mifflin 2, Belle Vernon 0
Riley Dobnak threw a five-hitter and struck out 15 as West Mifflin blanked Belle Vernon, 2-0.
West Mifflin scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. That was all the offense Dobnak needed.
Mailey Hayes had a double for Belle Vernon.
