High school baseball: Carmichaels, South Fayette walk off with wins
Robbie Wilson-Jones hit a two-run, walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning in a 4-3 win for Carmichaels over Jefferson-Morgan in a marathon Class A Section 1 game Tuesday.
Deakyn Dehoet had an RBI single in the top half of the 10th that gave Jefferson-Morgan a 3-2 lead. Dehoet also had an RBI triple in the sixth that tied the game at 2-2.
Charleroi 2, Seton LaSalle 1
Braeden Todaro hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh and Charleroi defeated Seton LaSalle, 2-1, in a Class 3A Section 4 game.
Jake Corrin pitched a complete game for the Cougars and did not allow an earned run. Corrin had six strikeouts.
South Fayette 3, Chartiers Valley 2
Ryan Speer had a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel South Fayette past Chartiers Valley, 3-2, in a Class 5A Section 2 win.
The Lions were down 2-0 in the sixth, but an RBI single by Cody Bungert and a sacrifice fly by Chaz Kosko.
Connor Rynn got the win in relief, pitching four innings with three strikeouts.
Anthony LoCastro pitched well for the Rebels in the loss, with eight strikeouts.
Belle Vernon 5, Ringgold 2
Parker Lind had 11 strikeouts to pace Belle Vernon in a Class 4A Section 2 win over Ringgold Tuesday.
Lind did not allow an earned run. Cole Matusik got the final five outs to earn a save.
Kole Doppelhauer and Conner Bergman drove in two runs apiece. Bergman had a double in the third inning.
Kennedy Nash and Sam Allen had a double and an RBI each for Ringgold.
Brownsville 7, Washington 3
Gene Thorpe had six strikeouts to lead Brownsville past Washington 7-3
in Class 3A Section 4 Tuesday.
William Callan, Jayden Hagen and Fernando Lozano had two hits apiece for Washington, which outhit Brownsville 11-4, but three errors hurt the Prexies.
Callan pitched six innings and allowed only two earned runs in the loss. He struck out five.
Trinity 3, Bethel Park 2
Zach Schrader pitched five shutout innings and Trinity held off a late rally by Bethel Park to secure a Class 5A Section 2 win.
Jackson Burt worked around four walks to get the final six outs for a save. Bethel Park scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Burt got a foul-tip strikeout with the bases loaded for the final out.
Jonah Williamson doubled for the Hillers.
Canon-McMillan 11, Woodland Hills 0
Troy Stimpson had an inside the park home run, a double and drove in four runs for Canon-McMillan in a 11-0 five-inning Class 6A Section 1 win over Woodland Hills.
M.J. Maruschak, Ben Peterson, Teddy Burke and Blake Simmons each belted a double. Sebastian Shulsky yielded only one hit over five innings and had 11 strikeouts.
Avella 11, Mapletown 1
Logan Fedak struck out 10 over five innings in his season debut and Avella cruised to an 11-1 win over Mapletown in Class A Section 1.
Chas Rush doubled for the Eagles, who worked eight walks. Bryce Wright hit a two-run single.
Fort Cherry 10, Bentworth 0
Ben Demascal had a solo homer, a double and four RBI as Fort Cherry topped Bentworth, 10-0, in six innings in Class 2A Section 1.
Colton Temple pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Rangers and Nolan Wolfe smacked a two-run double. Ben Hays had the lone hit for Bentworth.
California 3, Burgettstown 1
Caden Monticelli pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings with six strikeouts in a 3-1 win for California over Burgettstown in Class 2A Section 1.
Ricky Lawson got the final seven outs to convert the save. Lawson and Weston Monticelli had two hits apiece.
Matthew Bredel took the tough-luck loss, allowing two runs over seven innings with four strikeouts. Bredel doubled for the lone extra-base hit in the game.
McGuffey 11, Keystone Oaks 6
Sam Stout doubled and drove in a pair of runs for McGuffey in a 11-6 victory over Keystone Oaks to earn a split in a Class 3A Section 4 two-game series.
Reno Presto added a pair of hits and two RBI and was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings.
