Waynesburg scored five runs each in the second and third innings and that was more than enough run support for Tyler Groves, who pitched a one-hitter in a 10-0 five-inning shutout of Washington Monday afternoon at EQT Park.

Groves finished with eight strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Grant Pack and Jake Stephenson also tripled for the Raiders and Alex VanSickle launched a three-run homer in the third inning.

With the win the Raiders improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 3A Section 4. Tyler Bainer had the lone hit for Washington (0-5, 1-7).

McGuffey 5, Charleroi 0

Reno Presto allowed one hit in 6⅔ shutout innings and McGuffey dealt Charleroi its first Class 3A Section 4 loss as the Highlanders won 5-0 at EQT Park.

Presto allowed only a single by Charleroi’s Jace Pager. He did issue seven walks and struck out seven.

Preston Hornak doubled and drove in three runs to lead the offense for McGuffey (1-1, 4-3). Sam Stout also had a double.

Charleroi is 3-1 in the section and 4-2 overall.

Upper St. Clair 8, Trinity 4

Upper St. Clair scored five runs over the first two innings and beat Trinity, 8-4

Nolan Wilson drove in three runs and Nico D’Orazio scored three runs for USC.

Trinity was limited to four hits by two USC pitchers. Matthew Robaugh had two doubles and Ayvari Chandler scored twice
