Perhaps the cold weather Tuesday had something to do with it, but it took some time for the California baseball team to get warmed up in its Class 2A Section 1 game against Beth-Center.

California scored 10 runs in the fifth inning and overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Bulldogs 14-4 in six innings.

The Trojans (2-0, 3-3) trailed 4-0 after B-C (1-3, 2-3) scored four times in the top of the third. California pushed one run across in the bottom of the third and then erupted for 12 runs over the next two innings.

Reggie Lawson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to lead California. Chase Cicchitto doubled and Caden Monticelli drove in a pair.

Beth-Center’s Jackson Nopwaskey had a triple and Enzo Brown doubled.
