High school softball: Williams’ home run sparks C-M’s comeback
Kiersten Williams hit a three-run homer, powering Canon-McMillan to a 7-6 victory over Pine-Richland in a Class 6A Section 1 game Friday.
Pine-Richland (3-3, 4-3) led 4-0 after three innings, but Canon-Mac (4-4, 6-5) scored twice in the fourth and took a 5-4 lead on Williams’ home run in the fifth. The Big Macs pushed their lead to 7-4 and had to hold off a late rally by Pine-Richland.
Callie Stonemark had a double for the Big Macs.
C-M survived a big game by Rams catcher Calle Henne, a Pitt recruit, who homered and added two doubles. Abbey Laurent also homered.
Jefferson-Morgan 9, Mapletown 2
Winning pitcher Emilee Bazzoli hit a grand slam in Jefferson-Morgan’s five-run fourth inning and the Rockets went on to a 9-2 win over visiting Mapletown in Class A Section 2.
Bazzoli fired a four-hitter and struck out 10. She also hit a double to help J-M improve to 2-0 in section and 5-1 overall.
MaKenna Lotspeich had a double for Mapletown (0-4, 2-7).
Brownsville 5, Bentworth 0
Ava Clark fired a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and Blair Long drove in a pair of runs as Brownsville defeated Bentworth 5-0 in a Class 2A Section 4 game.
The lone hit for Bentworth (1-1, 4-4) was a double by Kyleigh Glaze. Clark did not issue a walk.
Brownsville (1-1, 4-3) had 11 hits, including a triple by Skyler Gates.
South Park 5, McGuffey 3
Winning pitcher Sydney Sekely hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the sixth inning and undefeated South Park beat visiting McGuffey 5-3 in a game for first place in Class 3A Section 3.
Sekely pitched a six-hitter and drove in two runs for the Eagles (4-0, 10-0).
McGuffey (1-1, 4-3) erased an early three-run deficit by scoring three times in the third. Miley Main had a two-run triple.
