High school baseball: Gotfriedson pitches C-H to win

Brady Godfriedson pitched 6 1-3 innings and did not allow an earned run to help Chartiers-Houston (2-3, 4-3) earn a 4-1 win over Frazier (1-3, 4-4) in Class 2A Section 1 on Monday.

Godfriedson had six strikeouts and one unearned run. Brady Robaugh recorded the final two outs to get the save.

Aaron Walsh and Cale Bitz had a pair of singles for the Bucs. Bitz drove in two runs.

Fort Cherry 9, Frazier 2

In a unique twist, Frazier also played Fort Cherry in a makeup game at Chartiers-Houston after its game with the Bucs.

Fort Cherry won the game 9-2 behind four innings of one-hit ball on the mound by Ryan Huey.

Huey had nine strikeouts. Tyler Wolfe, Landon Trnavsky and Ben Demascal doubled for the Rangers (5-1, 5-4).

Keystone Oaks 4, Charleroi 3

Nathan Rowe drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to score the winning run in a 4-3 win for Keystone Oaks (2-3, 5-4) over Charleroi in Class 3A Section 4 play.

The Cougars (3-3, 4-4) led 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, but Brandon Kaminski brought in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to force extra innings. Jace Pager went singled, doubled and drove in a pair for the Cougars.

Washington 15, Monessen 1

Caleb Patton went 4-of-4 and had a pair of triples in a 15-1 nonsection win for Washington (3-9) over Monessen (0-10).

Noah Patton and Will Callan added two hits each. Callan tripled and drove in two runs. Ian Charnik added an RBI double.

Christian Scherer, Colton Shawley and Daniel Towler singled for the Greyhounds.

Jefferson-Morgan 12, West Greene 2

A five-run first inning helped Jefferson-Morgan top West Greene, 12-2 in five innings in Class A, Section 1 action.

Evan Kniha had a two run single in the first, Brayden Ellsworth added an RBI single and Joe Bair contributed an RBI double. Ellsworth had three hits for the Rockets (3-3, 4-3). Kniha finished with three RBI.

Lane Allison had all three hits for West Greene (2-3, 3-6).

Greensburg Central Catholic 6, Carmichaels 5

A passed ball and an error allowed Anthony Grippo to score the winning run for Greensburg Central Catholic (4-0, 6-1) in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-5 win over Carmichaels (4-2, 5-3) in Class A Section 1.

Robbie Wilson-Jones doubled down the left-field line for the Mikes to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth. Jordan Davis doubled and had four RBI.

West Mifflin 1, Ringgold 0

Tyler Fisher was a hard-luck loser for Ringgold, allowing an unearned run over six innings with four strikeouts in a 1-0 loss to West Mifflin (5-0, 10-3) in Class 4A Section 2.

Jackson Fite struck out eight over six one-hit innings for the Titans, who scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth. Andrew Sprinkle had the only hit for the Rams (3-4, 4-7).

Avella 5, Jeannette 4

Chas Rush had a clutch RBI single in the top of the seventh, which gave Avella (5-1, 9-1) the lead in a 5-4 win over Jeannette (0-3, 2-6) in Class A Section 1.

Rush’s single came after Jeannette had scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Logan Fedak had two hits and was the winning pitcher in relief.

California 7, Bentworth 2

Caden Monticelli struck out 11 and pitched into the seventh inning as California defeated Bentworth 7-2 in Class 2A Section 1.

The win keeps California (4-0, 4-3) unbeaten in the section.

Ricky Lawson hit two doubles and drove in a pair and Logan Hartley added two hits including a double to lead the Trojans’ offense.

Monticelli took a shutout into the sixth when Bentworth (2-5, 2-6) did all of its scoring.

Waynesburg 10, Seton LaSalle 2

Waynesburg broke open a close game with an eight-run top of the seventh en route to a 10-2 win over Seton LaSalle (4-2, 5-4) in Class 3A Section 4.

Alex VanSickle homered, doubled and had two RBI for the Raiders (5-0, 9-0). Austin Surber tripled, doubled and had an RBI and Jake Stephenson had two hits, including a triple and a pair of RBI.

Elizabeth Forward 7, Belle Vernon 0

Cy Herchelroath yielded only three hits and struck out eight in a complete game to help Elizabeth Forward (4-1, 7-2) hand Belle Vernon (6-1, 8-1) its first loss of the season in a 7-0 win in Class 4A Section 2.

Alonzo Wade had two of the three Leopards hits.

Trinity 5, Penn-Trafford 4

Trinity (4-5) built a four-run lead in the first inning and held off Penn-Trafford’s comeback attempt in a 5-4 victory in nonsection play.

Jonah Williamson, Derek Falvo had an RBI single in the first. Williamson added another RBI single in the third, which proved to be the winning run.

South Fayette 11, Upper St. Clair 0

Cody Bungert drove in five runs to help South Fayette (5-2, 8-3) cruise to a 11-0 victory over Upper St. Clair (2-3, 4-4) in five innings in Class 5A Section 2.

Bungert had three hits, including a double and Carter Rynn pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win. Bo Stover added a double and drew a pair of walks for the Lions.

Canon-McMillan 4, Mt. Lebanon 1

Canon-McMillan pitcher Sebastian Shulsky scattered seven hits and struck out eight in a 4-1 victory over Mt. Lebanon (2-2, 3-8) in Class 6A Section 2.

M.J. Maruschak hit an RBI double to break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. The Big Macs (5-2, 9-3) added three more runs in the sixth.

McGuffey 5, Brownsville 1

Starter Reno Presto and reliever Noah Seibert scattered seven hits as surging McGuffey defeated Brownsville 5-1 in a Class 3A Section 4 game played at EQT Park.

The Highlanders (4-1, 7-3) have won five in a row.

Presto threw five innings of one-run ball and Seibert followed with two shutout innings. McGuffey made the most of six hits, including a double by Sam Stout.
