High school softball: Trinity gets win at Baldwin

Ally Krenzelak had three hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning, to propel Trinity (5-1, 7-5) to a 7-3 win over Baldwin (5-1, 9-2) in a Class 5A Section 4 game Monday.

Maddie Ray pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and had an RBI single for the Hillers, who used a four-run fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

Alexa Zawacki went 2-for-3 with a double.

Ryley Shaw hit a solo homer for Baldwin.

Waynesburg 5, Frazier 4

Waynesburg held off a late rally by Frazier to secure a 5-4 victory in a Class 2A Section 4 game.

A two-run double by Grace Vaughn in the bottom of the seventh cut the lead to one, but Gina Tedrow got a strikeout and a popout to strand the tying run on second base. Tedrow had 15 strikeouts and eight walks. Waynesburg (2-0, 5-3) scored three unearned runs off three errors by Frazier (2-1, 5-2). Ava Davis, Aidan Snider and Kobi Ratsoka had an RBI each for the Raiders.

South Fayette 8, Upper St. Clair 5

Emma Smith doubled, tripled and drove in two runs in an 8-5 win for South Fayette (2-0, 7-2) over Upper St. Clair (1-2, 6-2) in a Class 5A Section 3 game. Cam Valentino, Maddie Cavenaugh and Evie Vuono added a double each for the Lions.

Carmichaels 15, Beth-Center 0

Undefeated Carmichaels scored eight runs in the first inning and went on to a 15-0 victory in four innings over Beth-Center in Class A Section 2.

Winning pitcher Bailey Barnyak fired a one-hitter and Ali Jacobs homered and finished with three RBI for the Mikes (3-0, 7-0). Avery Voithofer went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Carys McConnell added a double and Kaitlyn Waggett drove in three.

Jenna Pohioll had the lone hit for B-C (1-2, 1-6).

West Greene 8, Jefferson-Morgan 0

West Greene broke open a close game scoring seven runs in the top of the seventh inning for an 8-0 victory at Jefferson-Morgan in Class A Section 2.

Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert threw a two-hit shutout.

The game was scoreless until West Greene (3-1, 8-1) pushed across a run in the sixth inning when Marissa Tharp led off with a single, stole two bases and was driven in by Madelyn Roberts.

Kendra Tharp smacked a three-run homer in the Pioneers’ big inning.

Addie Larkin had a double for one of the two hits by J-M (2-1, 5-2).

Norwin 5, Canon-McMillan 1

Norwin scored three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to a 5-1 victory over Canon-McMillan in Class 6A Section 1.

Rachel Minteer and MaKenna Black homered for the Knights (4-3, 4-6).

Canon-Mac (4-5, 6-6) was held to four hits, one a solo homer by Skylah Steban.

Chartiers-Houston 15, Carlynton 0

Taryne Drilak fired a three-inning perfect game as undefeated Chartiers-Houston rolled over visiting Carlynton 15-0 in Class 2A Section 3.

Drilak retired all nine batters she faced with five outs coming via strikeouts.

Drilak also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two-run double for the Bucs (3-0, 9-0). Ella Richey also homered, Lauren Rush tripled, and Sydney English and Aubree Randolph doubled.

McGuffey 15, Steel Valley 0

Kali Franks and Faith Ealy hit home runs and two McGuffey pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Highlanders blanked Steel Valley 15-0 in a four-inning Class 3A Section 3 game.

Courtney Bedillion added three RBI to the attack for McGuffey (2-1, 5-3). Pitchers Makenna Crothers and Miley Main combined for 11 strikeouts.

Mapletown 9, Avella 3

Winning pitcher Reagan Rankin struck out 13 and MaKenna Lotspeich homered and doubled as Mapletown defeated Avella 9-3 in Class A Section 2.

The game was scoreless until Mapletown (1-3, 3-6) scored four times in the fourth inning. Cora Roberts had a double and drove in two for the Maples.

Haleigh Rush and Emily Bueleach had a double for Avella.

Connellsville 15, Peters Township 5

Connellsville scored eight times in the first inning and went on to a 15-5 win over Peters Township in a five-inning game in Class 5A Section 4.

Cali Leichliter and Kaylyn Cole each homered for Connellsville (1-1, 5-1) and Kailee Roadman drove in three runs.

PT (0-6, 2-8) lost despite having every player in the lineup collect at least one hit. Avery Carson had three singles.

OLSH 14, Burgettstown 4

Mya Eshenbaugh drove in four runs, powering Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 14-4 win in five innings over Burgettstown.

The Chargers (2-0, 4-3) took control of the game by scoring seven runs in the third.

Leechburg 14, Monessen 8

An eight run bottom of the second inning helped Leechburg (2-1, 4-3) top Monessen 14-8 in a Class A Section 3 game.

Grace Clingenpeel doubled three times for the Greyhounds (0-2, 0-4) and had an RBI.
