High school softball: C-H’s Ferri homers, strikes out 19
Chartiers-Houston pitcher Meadow Ferri struck out 19 batters and helped the Bucs at the plate with a home run in an 11-1 win over Seton LaSalle in a Class 2A Section 3 game Tuesday.
The Bucs remained undefeated at 4-0 in section and 10-0 overall. It was C-H’s fourth-straight win by at least 10 runs.
Ella Richey and Aubree Randolph tripled for C-H and Zaylee Fonner had a double. Ferri drew three walks and scored four runs.
West Greene 21, Beth-Center 6
Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert went 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI in West Greene’s 21-6 win in five innings in a Class A Section 2 game at Beth-Center.
Khyler Davis scored five runs and Emmaline Beazell had a double and four RBI. Katie Brunock doubled and Madelyn Roberts belted a triple for the Pioneers (4-1, 9-1). Gilbert struck out and tossed a six-hitter that included a triple by B-C’s Kendall Welsh.
Uniontown 10, Belle Vernon 5
Uniontown picked up a rare win over Belle Vernon, beating the host Leopards 10-5 in Class 4A Section 2.
Winning pitcher Emmaleigh Noah hit a home run and Uniontown (4-2, 6-4) scored eight runs in the third inning.
Mia Zubovic homered and drove in three for Belle Vernon (3-2, 5-6). Lauren VanDivner and Kaylee Sypolt doubled.
Moon 15, South Fayette 12
Moon took advantage of nine South Fayette errors and beat the Lions 15-12 in Class 5A Section 3. The Tigers (2-2, 4-4) had an eight-run second inning and a five-run sixth.
South Fayette is 2-1, 7-3.
Brownsville 3, Waynesburg 2
Ava Clark had 18 strikeouts and Brownsville (2-1, 5-3) took advantage of four Waynesburg errors in a 3-2 walk-off win in a key Class 2A Section 4 game.
The game ended when Lyla Gill scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh.
Gina Tedrow did not allow an earned run for Waynesburg (2-1, 5-4). She scattered five hits, had 11 strikeouts and two walks. Avery Davis went 3-for-3 with a double.
