High school baseball: Gelder pitches Charleroi to win
Charleroi scored three runs in the top of the first and got a strong outing on the mound from Jacob Gelder for a 4-3 win over Seton LaSalle (4-4, 5-6) in a Class 3A Section 4 game Wednesday.
Gelder only needed 81 pitches to finish off a complete game where he allowed two earned runs, struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Jake Pager went 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs for the Cougars (5-3, 6-4).
Peters Township 6, Bethel Park 1
Peters Township scored five runs over the last two innings to pick up a key 6-1 win over Bethel Park in Class 5A Section 2.
PT (3-3, 8-5) broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth on a two-run single by Brody Takacs and tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth, two scoring on a triple by Zach Miner.
Miner was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and allowing one run on seven hits.
Bethel Park slips to 5-3, 8-4. The Black Hawks are tied for first place with South Fayette.
