Burgettstown avenged a loss three weeks ago by defeating host California 3-2 in a key Class 2A Section 1 game Saturday afternoon.

Burgettstown improves to 5-1 in the section and is tied with Fort Cherry for first place. California drops to 4-2 in section.

Burgettstown scored twice in the first inning whenSam Elich singled to left driving in Matthew Bredel and Jayden Roach to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead.

The Trojans got one back in their half of the first tied it in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Colton Lowden.

Caleb Matalik singled to lead off the fifth forBurgettstown. Following a sacrifice bunt by Trent Stevens, Matalik scored on a single by Bredel.

Bredel was the winning pitcher, pitching into the seventh inning. Jayden Roach got the final two outs for a save.

Caden Monticelli went the distance for the Trojans allowing only three hits and striking out eight.
