High school baseball: Peters Township slips past USC
Jack Stewart and Michael Alspaugh combined on a six-hitter, Zach Miner had an RBI single and Peters Township defeated Upper St. Clair 3-1 Monday night in a Class 5A Section 2 game played at Ross Memorial Park.
The win moves PT to 4-3 in the tightly packed section and 9-5 overall. The Indians are a half-game out of first place. USC drops to 3-4, 5-5.
PT scored two runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk. USC pulled to within 2-1 in the fourth, but Miner delivered his RBI hit in the fifth that gave the PT pitchers some wiggle room.
Stewart pitched six innings, allowing six hits and one unearned run. Alpsbaugh got the final three outs for a save.
Alspaugh had David Oberschelp each had a double among PT’s four hits.
