High school softball: Carmichaels’ Barnyak throws 5-inning no-hitter
Bailey Barnyak struck out 14 in a five-inning no-hitter, leading Carmichaels (6-0, 10-0) to a 17-0 victory over Avella (2-5, 3-9) in Class A Section 2 on Wednesday.
Ke’Lani Chun had an inside-the-park home run and a two-run single for a four RBI day. Katlyn Waggett had five RBI and three hits, including a bases clearing triple in the fifth. Ashton Batis added an RBI triple for the Mikes.
McGuffey 11, East Allegheny 0
Makenna Crothers pitched a five-inning no-hitter in an 11-0 win for McGuffey (6-2, 9-4) over East Allegheny (0-7, 0-10) in Class 3A Section 3.
Crothers had 10 strikeouts and two walks.
Mackenzie Shrader hit a solo home run in the top of the third for the Highlanders. Faith Ealy went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Nicole Klages hit a double and a triple.
Chartiers-Houston 10, Burgettstown 0
Ella Richey homered twice and drove in three runs, while Meadow Ferri and Taryne Drilak combined to pitch a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win for Chartiers-Houston over Burgettstown (2-4, 5-7).
The Bucs (7-0, 13-1) remain unbeaten in Class 2A Section 3 and haven’t allowed a run in their last three games. Ferri had seven strikeouts over four innings. Aubree Randolph and Lauren Rush each contributed a double.
Bentworth 15, California 0
Bentworth scored 11 runs in the bottom of the second on its way to a 15-0 win in three innings over California (0-3, 2-5) in Class 2A Section 4.
Sydney Gonglik went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and five RBI for the Bearcats (3-3, 6-6) and Sofia Gaussa tripled and drove in four. Zoie McDonald hit a double and a triple and had an RBI.
Gabbi Luncinski and Bailee Cuthbertson singled for the Trojans.
Jefferson-Morgan 17, Beth-Center 3
A nine-run second inning helped Jefferson-Morgan (3-3, 6-4) pull away in a 17-3 win in five innings over Beth-Center (2-5, 2-9) in Class A Section 2.
Ashlyn Snyder and Addalei Larkin drove in four runs each for the Rockets. Brooklyne Snyder tripled and Addyson Teagarden doubled.
Bella Stepp and Jenna Pohill had a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Charleroi 8, Keystone Oaks 1
Ariahna Blouse finished a homer short of the cycle and had three RBI for Charleroi (3-2, 5-2) in a 8-1 victory over Keystone Oaks (3-4, 5-7) in Class 3A Section 3.
Nori Stringa-Smith added a double and drove in three runs for the Cougars. Zoey Charlton doubled and plated a pair and Rya Dipietrantoinio was the winning pitcher.
South Fayette 18, Montour 3
Evie Vuono hit two home runs, doubled twice and had seven RBI to power South Fayette in an 18-3 victory over Montour (0-6, 2-9) in five innings in Class 5A Section 3.
The Lions (5-2, 10-4) scored 10 runs in the third inning and seven in the fifth. Maddie Cavanaugh struck out seven to earn the win and went 4 for 4 with three RBI. Cam Valentino singled three times and had an RBI and Addie Viera produced two hits and three RBI.
N Hanna Suhoski had three hits, including a home run and three RBI, to help Trinity secure a 10-0 win over Peters Township in Class 5A Section 4.
The Hillers (7-2, 9-6) put the game away with a six-run top of the seventh.
Maddie Ray and Gabby Humphries combined on a four-hit shutout. Nina Christy contributed three RBI and had a double.
Mackenzie Morgan tripled for the Indians (1-8, 3-10).
Belle Vernon 9, Oakland Catholic 3
Katie Sokol doubled, tripled and had four RBI for Belle Vernon in a 9-3 win over Oakland Catholic in Class 4A Section 2.
Taylor Beech added a triple and an RBI for Leopards (6-4, 8-8). Kayle Sypolt doubled twice, and Mia Zubovic had three hits, including a double and an RBI.
Nina Hillack hit a three-run homer for Oakland Catholic (0-8, 1-9).
West Greene 11, Mapletown 2
Kylee Davis, Emmaline Beazell and Katie Brudnock had a pair of RBI for West Greene in an 11-2 win over Mapletown in Class A Section 2.
Davis and Kendra Tharp had a multi-hit game for the Pioneers (6-1, 11-1) and Payton Gilbert was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts.
Mapletown (1-6, 3-9) led 2-0 after one inning thanks to a two-run single by Marley Seward.
Carlynton 21, Fort Cherry 6
Carlee Hughes hit two doubles and Carlynton scored 11 runs in the second en route to a 21-6 win over Fort Cherry in three innings.
Lyla Schneider and Mylee Johnson doubled for FC, which led 3-0 in the first inning.
