Hays, Bentworth off to fast start to season
Ben Hays scored five touchdowns – one on a punt return – and Bentworth rolled to a 57-6 season-opening win Friday night over Brownsville.
Hays rushed for 184 yards on 14 carries and found the end zone on jaunts of 3, 9, 24 and 10 yards. He also returned a Brownsville punt 42 yards for a score that gave Bentworth a 28-0 lead in the second quarter. The Bearcats led 41-0 at halftime.
Bentworth’s Matt Behanna had a hand in two scores. He ran six yards for a touchdown in the second quarter and caught a 19-yard TD pass from Ty Watson in the third quarter.
