High school basketball: Raiders give Capozolli first win

Freshmen Tess Pauley and Addonae Johnson combined for 31 points as Waynesburg opened its girls basketball season with a 75-38 victory over visiting Frazier on Monday, giving new Raiders head coach Mark Capozolli his first victory.

Waynesburg had a terrific offensive performance, putting four players in double figures. Pauley led the way with 16 points followed by Johnson’s 15 that included three three-point field goals. Emma Blair finished with 14 points and Peyton Cowell had 12.

The Raiders scored 46 points in the first half and took a 23-point lead into halftime.

Frazier (0-1) was led by Allie Yauch’s 10 points. The Commodores were held without a free throw (0-for-2).

Propel Montour 67, Mapletown 20

Propel Montour outscored host Mapletown 20-0 in the first quarter and went on to a 67-20 victory in a nonsection game that was the Maples’ season opener.
