Wrestling roundup: Chartiers-Houston, Beth-Center rally late for wins

Chartiers-Houston erased a 14-point deficit with three bouts remaining and defeated host Keystone Oaks, 40-36, in a non-section match Wednesday night.

KO led 30-18 before Chartiers-Houston’s Angelo Mele (160) won by major decision. KO made it 36-22 with a win by fall at 172, but the Bucs won the final three weight classes. Colton Gee (189) started the comeback with a fall and the Bucs picked up a forfeit at 215 that trimmed KO’s lead to 36-34.

Heavyweight Jacob Lyle then won the match by pinning his opponent in the first period.

Holdyn Humphries (107), John Dove (121) and Caleb Tewell (152) each won by fall for C-H.

Beth-Center 39, Freedom 36

Noah Layhue recorded a 5-0 decision over Freedom’s Troy Gorajewski at heavyweight in the final bout of the night to give Beth-Center a 39-36 win in a nonsection match.

Malachi Peak (215) pinned Jake Shaffer at 1:28 in the match before Layhue’s.

Shane Cronin (133) and Mason Wright also had a pin for the Bulldogs, who won three other matches by forfeit.

Jefferson-Morgan 39, Bentworth 32

A pin by Caleb Duaney at 114 pounds secured victory for Jefferson-Morgan, which went on to win 39-32 over Bentworth in a Class 2A Section 3 match.

Ej Lingenfield (152), Geno Orlandi (160) and Landon Heath (Hvy) also won by fall for the Rockets, while Payton Bastian (189) secured a tight 5-4 decision against Paxton Thomas at 189.

Drake McClure (139), Bobby Lemley (127) and Bryce Crowson (145) had pins for Bentworth. Owen Ivcic (172) won by tech. fall, 25-10 and Brock McClure had a 15-9 decision at 121.

Washington 36, Fort Cherry 18

Noah Patton (133), Caleb Patton (160), Vonnie Woods (172) and Joe Wilson (Hvy) won by fall to help Wash High top Fort Cherry, 36-18.

Each team picked up a pair of wins by forfeit.

Cameron Eiler had a pin in the 127-pound bout for Fort Cherry, which is wrestling an independent schedule this season.

Thomas Jefferson 50, Belle Vernon 22

Thomas Jefferson won seven bouts via pin or technical fall en route to a 50-22 victory over Belle Vernon in Class 3A Section 7.

Belle Vernon’s Brayden Broadwater (113) and Colby Hibner (160) each won by fall. Elijah Brown (220), the Leopards’ defending state champion, won by forfeit.

McGuffey 60, Waynesburg 9

Clayton Ealy (127), Lane Ealy (133), Lucas Barr (139), Michael Cosato (145) and Victor Bonus (152) reeled off five straight pins as McGuffey rolled to a 60-9 win over Waynesburg in a nonsection match.

Cash Main (172) also won by fall for the Highlanders.

Ky-Mani Sumpter recorded a 6-3 decision at 189 for Waynesburg and Roan Tustin (215) won by fall.

Trinity 68, Chartiers Valley 6

Trinity was a pinning machine against Chartiers Valley in a 68-6 victory in a Class 3A Section 2 match.

Parker Jennings (114), Gavin Brand (121) Landon Ault (127), Dominick Canali (133), Jacob Wright (139), Devin Junko (145), Carson Gerba (152), Ian Holub (215) and Edrick Williams (Hvy) won by fall for the Hillers.

Luke Poland (160) picked up a 15-0 tech fall and Teagan Barr won by decision at 215.

Girls result

Canon-McMillan 54, North Allegheny 18

Adelina Saussol (106), Malia Ramos (112), Zoey Bogos (130), Yunuen Ayala (136), Mackenzie Pape (142), Alaya Henderson (148) and Audrey Calgaro (170) won by fall to help Canon-McMillan secure a 54-18 win over North Allegheny Tuesday night.

Giana Cafaeo (118) and Giana Wingfield (190) picked up wins via decision for the Big Macs.
