The WPIAL Class 5A champion Peters Township football team was well represented on the All-State team released Tuesday.
Four Indians – James Spratt, Nolan DiLucia, Lucas Shanafelt and Reston Lehman – made the list.
Fort Cherry’s Matt Sieg and Bentworth’s Ben Hays made the Class A All-State team.
The teams were compiled by a statewide vote of sportswriters.
The Class A, 3A and 5A teams were released Tuesday. The Class 2A, 4A and 6A teams will be released today.
DiLucia was one of four quarterbacks selected and made the team for the third time in his career. The Villanova recruit passed for 2,782 yards and 22 touchdowns and was named the Observer-Reporter Player of the Year.
Spratt had 22 tackles in the WPIAL Class 5A championship game, a 20-19 comeback win over Pine-Richland.
He anchored the defense at middle linebacker between Shanafelt and Lehman.
Shanafelt, a Stanford recruit, was a two-way standout both as a linebacker and a tight end. He was the only tight end selected for the All-State team. He caught 26 passes for 479 yards and six touchdowns.
Lehman, a Pitt recruit, was selected as a defensive lineman, and did his damage as an edge rusher. He led a Peters Township defense that allowed only six points per game in the regular season.
Class A
Sieg, a West Virginia recruit, capped a sensational career at Fort Cherry by setting WPIAL records for touchdowns scored (139) and total yardage (12,592). Hampered by a shoulder injury that limited his throwing this season, Sieg was still a major producer on the ground. He put up 1,774 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns.
Hays won the WPIAL regular-season rushing title and led Bentworth to an eight-win season for the first time since 1986. He finished with 1,757 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns.
