Last-second basket gives C-H tournament title at Avella

Brody McCrerey had a game-high 21 points, including a game-winning basket with 1.5 seconds remaining to propel Chartiers-Houston past tournament host Avella, 51-49, in the championship game of the Eagles’ tournament Monday night.

The Bucs inbounded the ball with eight seconds remaining and McCrerey nailed a bucket inside.

Chartiers-Houston led 26-19 at halftime, but the Eagles used a 20-10 advantage in the third to take a 39-36 lead through three quarters.

Brayden Fuller scored 20 points for the Eagles and Cam Ullom registered a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Trinity 62, Albert Gallatin 24:

Trinity held Albert Gallatin to one point in the first quarter and two in the fourth as en route to a 62-24 thumping of the Colonials in the first round of the Hillers’ holiday tournament.

Trinity will play Avonworth this afternoon for the tournament title.

The Hillers led 16-1 after one quarter and were never threatened.

Andrew Selway had a strong game with 18 points to pace Trinity. Jonah Williamson added 15.

Washington 74, California 27

Tristan Reed poured in 25 points to help Washington (4-5) cruise to a 74-27 win over California at the Monessen Tournament.

Will Callan added 20 points for the Prexies, who limited California to eight points in the second half after building a 46-19 lead at halftime.

Aaron Dennis led the Trojans (0-7) with 18 points.

OLSH 59, Monessen 25

Jake Johnnson led three OLSH players in double figures with 15 points in a 59-25 victory over tournament host Monessen (2-5).

Frankie Igre added 12 points and Tieman McCullough scored 10 for the Crusaders (5-4).

Torrence Taylor led Monessen with eight points.

Bentworth 62, West Greene 37

Tournament host Bentworth raced out to a 37-9 lead by halftime on its way to a 62-27 win over West Greene.

Ben Hays poured in 32 points for the Bearcats (6-2) and Levi Urcho finished with 10 points.

Landen Hill led the Pioneers (1-6) with 11 points.

Carrick 37, Waynesburg 30

Carrick (6-4) used a 16-8 advantage in the fourth quarter to earn a 37-30 win over Waynesburg (4-5) at the Bentworth Tournament.

Kejuan Johnson led Carrick with 11 points. Cole Headlee had a game-high 12 points for Waynesburg.

Avonworth 40, Canon-McMillan 37

Evan Loutzenhiser made a shot inside with just over a minute remaining in the game to give Avonworth its first lead and the Antelopes went on to win 40-37 over Canon-McMillan at Trinity’s Hiller Holiday Classic.

The Big Macs (4-5) led 12-3 at the end of the first quarter and by 12 points at halftime, but saw the Antelopes outscore them 28-13 in the second half.

Roman Koenemund scored 11 points for Canon-McMillan. Will Shields had 12 points to lead Avonworth (3-6).

Fort Cherry 63, McGuffey 48

Landon Trnavsky scored 21 points, sparking Fort Cherry to a 63-48 win over McGuffey in the consolation game of the Avella tournament.

Fort Cherry (5-3) led 28-23 at halftime and 45-40 at the end of three quarters. The Rangers secured the win with an 18-8 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.

Gavin Grace netted 12 points for Fort Cherry and Tyler Wolfe had 11.

McGuffey (4-6) received a game-high 22 points from Sam Stout and 16 from Kolt McGowan. Stout and Trnavsky were named to the all-tournament team.

Peters Township 73, Belle Vernon 57

Dylan Donovan had a game-high 26 points for Peters Township in a 73-57 win over Belle Vernon at the SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday event hosted by the Indians.

Donovan sank six three-pointers.

Jake Wetzel added 15 points and Jayden Greco scored 13 for the Indians (7-2).

Dane Daugherty had 18 points for Belle Vernon (7-5) and Luca Ghilani finished with 12 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 59, Beth-Center 31

Undefeated Jefferson-Morgan won its fourth consecutive Carmichaels Lions Club tournament on Sunday night, defeating Beth-Center 59-31 in the finals.

Tournament MVP Dayten Marion led the Rockets’ attack with a game-high 24 points. Jermeiah Robertson followed with 16 points and Brayden Ellsworth had 10.

Jefferson-Morgan (10-0) took control of the game early. The Rockets raced out to a 20-8 lead at the end of one quarter and went into halftime leading 39-14.

Beth-Center has a 5-4 record with two of its losses coming against J-M.

Girls results

Trinity 63, Chartiers Valley 47

Trinity got defensive in the middle quarters and defeated Chartiers Valley 63-47 in the SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday event at Peters Township.

Trinity (7-2) trailed 15-14 after one quarter, then outscored Chartiers Valley (3-8) by a 31-7 count over the next two quarters to open a commanding 45-22 lead.

Bently Layhue led a balanced Trinity attack with 16 points. Vittoria Emerich followed with 15 points, coming on five three-point field goals. Sutton Williamson tossed in 12 points.

Chartiers Valley’s Alyssa Davis scored a game-high 25 points.

South Fayette 72, Norfolk Christian 39

Ella Vierra poured in a game-high 26 points and South Fayette bounced back from its first loss of the season to defeat Norfolk Christian (Va.) 72-39 in the Tampa Bay Invitational.

South Fayette (9-1) lost for the first time on Saturday, falling to nationally ranked Miami Country Day, 56-54.

Against Norfolk Christian, South Fayette raced out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter and went into half with a 41-20 advantage.

Haylie Lamonde scored 19 points for the Lions and Juliette Leroux had 10.

Chartiers-Houston 42, Washington 36

Chartiers-Houston used a second half rally to beat Washington 42-36 in a nonsection game.

The Bucs (8-1) scored only eight points in the first half and were down 27-13 in the third quarter, but used an 18-6 advantage in the fourth to secure a comeback win.

Ava Kolovich led the Bucs with 15 points, all in the second half and Mackenzie Walsh scored 10 points, all of them in the fourth quarter

Olivia Woods had 11 points for Wash High (5-3).

Blackhawk 50, Canon-McMillan 45

Aubree Hupp led four Blackhawk players in double figures with 17 points in a 50-45 win over Canon-McMillan at the PennWest California Holiday Tournament.

The Cougars remained unbeaten at 10-0 after erasing a 27-24 halftime deficit.

Madison Clair had 17 points for Canon-McMillan (9-2) and Lauren Borella scored 10.

Mia Sheesley added 12 points for the Cougars and Grace Huston and Gracen Sehn netted 10 apiece.

Norwin 57, Peters Township 53

Norwin held off a rally by tournament host Peters Township in a 57-53 win at the SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday event.

The Indians trailed 31- 23 at halftime, but a three-pointer at the buzzer gave them a 44-40 lead at the end of the third quarter. Norwin won the final frame 17-9 to remain undefeated at 8-0.

Nia O’Barto led the Knights with 15 points.

Peters Township (4-5) had three players in double figures: Bri Morreale (20 points), Maddyn Mehl (14) and Caitlin Malloy (10).

Belle Vernon 62, Allderice 53

Isis Almighty and Lyla McConnell each scored 16 points as Belle Vernon defeated Allderrice 62-53 in the Penn West California Holiday event.

The Leopards (7-3) fought back from deficits of 29-24 at halftime and 46-42 at the end of three quarters. Belle Vernon outscored Allderdice 20-7 in the pivotal fourth quarter.

The Leopards withstood a 30-point performance by Allderdice’s Bailey White.

Abby Russell had 14 points for Belle Vernon.

West Greene 55, Jefferson-Morgan 18

West Greene held Jefferson-Morgan to six points over the final three quarters on its way to a 55-18 win in a nonsection game.

The Pioneers led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, but pulled away in part because of Kendra Tharp’s double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Katie Brudnock and Jillissa Yeater each scored 12 for West Greene which improved to 8-2 overall.

Beautiful Medlen had 10 points for the Rockets (5-5).

Burgettstown 68, Monessen 47

Paige Klodowski poured in 31 points to help tournament host Burgettstown down Monessen 68-47.

The Blue Devils (8-2) play Aliquippa in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. today. Monessen (2-5) faces Freedom in the consolation game at 5 p.m.

Andi Miller added 14 points for Bugettstown.

Madison Johnson had 29 points for the Greyhounds and Na’Jaziah Carter scored 12.
