Beth-Center has 2 champs at Southmoreland tournament

Beth-Center had two champions Tuesday at the Southmoreland Holiday Classic.

Malachi Peak (189) decisioned Landon Nickerson of Corry 4-1 to win in the finals and Noah Layhue won the 215-pound title with a 5-4 decision over Logan Latimore of North East in the finals. Peak and Layhue are both students at California, which has a co-op with Beth-Center.

The Bulldogs’ Nosh McCollum (107) and Shane Cronin (127) each finished in third place and Mason Wright (133) was a fourth-place finisher.

Beth-Center finished ninth in the team standings of the 30-team tournament.

Burgettstown was the top local team as the Blue Devils finished in fifth place. Carter Baker (107) finished in second place, dropping a 3-1 decision in the finals. Gage Bradley (121) also was a runner-up. The Blue Devils’ Carter Katus finished fourth at 139.
