High school basketball: Bentworth tops Carrick to secure tournament title

Adam Moessner had a game-high 17 points to help Bentworth defend its home court with a 61-45 victory over Carrick in the championship game of its tournament Tuesday night.

Ben Hays added 16 points for the Bearcats and Ryan Moessner contributed 14 points, all in the first half. Bentworth (7-2) used a 23-12 advantage in the second quarter to take a 34-22 lead into halftime.

Kejuan Johnosn and Bryce Pryor scored 13 points apiece for Carrick (6-5).

West Greene 65, Waynesburg 51

Landon Hill poured in 28 points to lead West Greene to a 65-51 win over Waynesburg in the consolation game of the Bentworth Tournament.

The Pioneers (2-6) trailed by three points at halftime, but gained the lead by outscoring the Raiders, 18-9 in the third quarter.

Matt Wassil added 11 points for West Greene and Will Shipman scored 10.

Dane Woods paced Waynesburg (4-6) with 27 points and Cole Headlee finished with 18 points.

OLSH 59, Washington 39

Tiernan McCullough scored 14 points and led three Our Lady of the Sacred Heart players in double figures as the Chargers capped an undefeated run in the Monessen tournament with a 59-39 victory over Washington.

OLSH (6-4) led 30-18 at halftime and then pulled away with a 15-6 scoring edge in the pivotal third quarter.

Austin Adsec and Jake Johnson each tossed in 13 points for OLSH.

Wash High (4-6) had 16 points from Tristan Reed and Will Callahn chipped in with 10.

Monessen 65, California 26

Tayvin Cragette and Torrance Taylor combined for 38 points, powering Monessen to a 65-26 victory over California in the Greyhounds’ tournament.

Monessen (3-5) pulled away over the final three quarters after holding a 21-13 edge at the end of eight minutes.

Craggette and Taylor each tossed in 19 points and Jay’zeyon Jeffries added 14 for the Greyhounds.

Alan Dennis’ 12 points were tops for California (0-9).

Canon-McMillan 55, Albert Gallatin 36

Roman Koenemund led three Canon-McMillan players in double figures with 17 points in a 55-36 win over Albert Gallatin in the consolation game of the Hiller Holiday Classic.

Romelo D’Angelo added 11 points and Blake Simmons scored 10 for the Big Macs, who evened their record at 5-5

Adam Pegg and Mekhi Belt scored nine points apiece for Albert Gallatin (2-8).

Avonworth 58, Trinity 45

Thomas Warner had 23 points and canned seven three-pointers to lead Avonworth past Trinity in the championship game of the Hiller Holiday Classic.

The Antelopes (4-6) used a 17-5 advantage in the second quarter to take control. Will Shields chipped in 14 points for Avonworth.

Jonah Williamson led Trinity (3-7) with 15 points and Andrew Selway scored 13.

Norwin 62, Belle Vernon 55

Norwin built a 12-point lead by halftime and went on to defeat Belle Vernon, 62-55, at Peters Township’s SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday Event.

Elijah Majors had a game-high 20 points for the Leopards, who cut the deficit to two points at the end of the third quarter. Dane Daugherty added 14 points for Belle Vernon (7-6).

Alex Graney scored 18 for Norwin (7-4).

Olentangy (Ohio) 64, Peters Township 48

Jackson Mangham had 14 points to pace Olentangy to a 64-48 win over host Peters Township at the SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday Classic.

Dylan Donovan scored a game-high 22 points for Peters Township () and Jake Wetzel finished with 15 points.

Ringgold 96, Charleroi 66

Ringgold (8-2) had six players in double figures, including a 21-point effort by Dennis Hawkins in a 96-66 win over tournament host Charleroi (4-7) Monday night.

Taked Tolliver had 18 points, David Washinski scored 14, Dimitri Lowe had 12, Chris Wilson finished with 11 and Braylen Lomas had 10 for the Rams, which led 43-34 at halftime.

Xavion Thomas paced the Cougars with 21 points. Jackson Keranko, Luke Henderson and Braeden Todaro scored 10 apiece.

Girls results

South Fayette 72, Nazareth Academy 62

Haylie Lamonde led four South Fayette players in double figures with 18 points in a 72-62 win over Nazareth Academy at the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational.

The Lions (10-1) went 2-1 in their trip to Florida.

Juliette Leroux and Ryan Oldaker scored 16 points apiece for the Lions and Lailah Wright contributed 12 points.

Bentworth 51, Cambridge Springs 29

The tournament host Bearcats cruised past Cambridge Springs, 51-29, in the consolation game.

Benworth led 30-9 at halftime. Bella Moyer led the Bearcats (6-3) with 13 points and Nora Lindley finished with a dozen points.

Peters Township 58, Chartiers Valley 50

Behind 21 points from Taylor McCullough Peters Township earned a 58-50 win over Chartiers Valley at the Indians’ SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday Event.

Bri Morreale added 13 points for the Indians (5-5).

Alyssa Davis had a game-best 23 points for Chartiers Valley (3-9).

Sewickley Academy 47, Ringgold 23

Charlotte Morton led all scorers with 14 points to propel Sewickley Academy (3-6) to a 47-23 win over Ringgold (3-5) in the championship game of the Bentworth Tournament.

Ringgold led by two at the end of the first quarter, but Sewickley Academy used a 17-6 advantage in the second quarter to take control of the game.

Mikeala Mbandi scored 12 points for the Panthers.

Alayna Macioce and Addison Jenkins netted five points each for the Rams.

Kylie Hayes led Cambridge Springs with a game-high 16 points.

Norwin 54, Trinity 48

Trinity led unbeaten Norwin by three points at halftime, but the Knights took control in the fourth quarter to secure a 54-48 victory at the SouthHillsAuto.com Holiday Event at Peters Township.

The Knights (9-0) outscored the Hillers, 28-19, in the second half.

Sutton Williamson led Trinity (7-3) with 18 points and Gabby Humphreys finished with 11 points.

Giuliana Giannikas had a game-high 20 points for Norwin.

Ringgold 37, Bentworth 33

Ringgold used a fourth quarter rally to defeat tournament host Bentworth, 37-33, Monday night.

The Rams (3-4) trailed by nine points with six minutes remaining, but won the fourth quarter 16-8 to secure a comeback win.

Alayna Macioce led the Rams with 10 points.

Bella Moyer had a game-high 11 points to go along with five steals and eight rebounds for the Bearcats.

Aliquippa 49, Burgettstown 40

Jayonna Patrick scored 19 points, powering Aliquippa to a 49-40 win over Burgettstown in the championship game of the Blue Devils’ tournament.

Aliquippa (6-4) outscored Burgettstown (7-3) in each quarter but couldn’t shake the Blue Devils until the closing minutes.

Tournament MVP Denim Odom scored 13 points for Aliquippa.

Burgettstown received 17 points from Paige Klodowski and 12 from Marlee Martin.
